Some of my diligent readers have accused me of being senile, but I swear that just a few days ago, we were in an economic crisis. For example, President Obama said this in order to push through a $787,000,000,000 spending bill:
Or how about this:"If nothing is done, economists from across the spectrum tell us that this recession could linger for years and the unemployment rate could reach double digits - and they warn that our nation could lose the competitive edge that has served as a foundation for our strength and standing in the world." (Source)
"This is a crisis that was eight years in the making, maybe longer in certain aspects of it....But it's going to take some time, and the truth of the matter is the American people, I think, understand that it's going to take some time." (Source)And I seem to recall that Congress fixated on passing the bill with such drive and determination that no one, no democrat, no republican, had time to actually read the 1,071 pages of government borrowing and spending. (Tell me truthfully, when was the last time you read an 1100 page novel, let alone waded through an eleven hundred page congressional bill?)
House Republican leader John Boehner of Ohio dumped a copy of the 1,071-page bill to the floor in a gesture of contempt. "The bill that was about jobs, jobs, jobs has turned into a bill that's about spending, spending, spending," he said. (Source)Congress immediately (after Nancy Pelosi took her
The $410 billion bill is chock-full of those pet projects and significant increases in food aid for the poor, energy research and other programs. It was supposed to have been completed last fall, but Democrats opted against election-year battles with Republicans and former President George W. Bush. (Source)So now, what does the Fear-Mongerer-in-Chief have to say about all of this?
Confronting misgivings, even in his own party, President Barack Obama mounted a stout defense of his blueprint to overhaul the economy Thursday, declaring the national crisis is "not as bad as we think" and his plans will speed recovery. (Breitbart, emphasis added)Wow. Not as bad as we think.
Who do you mean by "we" Mr. President? If it's not as bad as we think, why did you keep telling us we were in a crisis? If it's not as bad as we think, why did you need to force feed the American people a spending package? If it's not as bad as we think, why did Nancy Pelosi allow those earmarks? And were they for the good of the country or for the good of reelection?
We elected these people. Let's see what we can do about replacing them with real leaders. Maybe the current crop are the ones who are as bad as we think.
