The California Supreme Court is set to hear oral arguments deciding the constitutionality of Proposition 8 beginning March 5. Last year, Governor Schwarzenegger went against the majority vote and declared his support to overturn Proposition 8. (LA Times) Just this past month, the California legislature denied the people its voice and declared its opposition to Proposition 8. (LA Times) The voice of the people in California to define marriage has been stepped on by its government and the decision now rests with a few individuals in the Supreme Court.
What a complete tragedy of government. The California governor and the legislature are a bunch of gutless wonders, caving in to political expediency, dressed in the guise of false civil rights, and squashing the California voters. This isn't justice. This isn't fairness. This isn't an appeal to civil rights. This is bad government, plain and simple.
Every Californian (except for the deluded few who have no regard for democracy) should be up in arms about the denial of the voters. The rejection of the people's will isn't happening in Russia or Iraq. It's happening right here in your own back yard.
