Marriage and its definition are not private concerns into a private matter. Marriage is a public matter by definition, a legal contract established by the state. Currently in Arizona, it is a means of contractually binding a man and a woman to establish legal rights within the society, especially with regard to producing children and inheritance. There are public entitlements also associated with the legal status of marriage.
Those who think that this issues surrounding Prop 102 is none of their concern, is a private matter or is merely legislating morality don't understand the crux of the matter. The gays understand that their disfranchisement from marriage is a public issue. That is why gays fight for inclusion. Those opposed to gay marriage understand the public nature of the marriage contract as well.
You cannot dismiss this issue on the claim that it is a private matter and of no concern to the law or the state constitution. The public and the law applies whether claimed or not.
