Info Post
Proposition 8 passed in California and the opponents, including the gay rights activists, went on the warpath, against the majority vote of the state. One object of their hatred seems to be the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The LA Times posted this about a protest in front of the Mormon temple in Los Angeles:

Gays Protest Mormons

And AZCentral.com reports the following about a gay boycott of Utah:

Boycott Utah

Here are some thoughts on the gay response to the Mormons:

The Mormons in California make up about two percent of the population - hardly a voting bloc that can take control of an election. That can't be the reason the gays hate the Mormons.

Since the opponents to Prop 8 raised MORE money that those in favor of the proposition, opponents can't claim an unfair money advantage. That can't be the reason the gays hate the Mormons.

The gays hate the Mormons because Mormon religion claims the authority of the Bible when it condemns homosexual behavior. So the gays lash out at an institution that refuses to accept them. The problem for gays isn't that Mormons are keeping them from their perceived civil rights. Mormons are just a drop in the bucket compared to the majority opinion of the US.

There are now 30 states in the US that ban gay marriage by constitutional amendment. That's hardly a Mormon thing.

Florida overwhelmingly passed their amendment with a fraction of one percent Mormon population. That's hardly a Mormon thing.

So why are the gays picking on the Mormons? California voters have told gays twice that they don't want gay marriage. The gays are boycotting the wrong state.
