Info Post
The Gilbert, Arizona Public Schools thinks it's a good idea to add sexual preference to the long list in its anti-discrimination policy. Apparently no one on the school board sees anything wrong with this.

Another step. Another foot in the door. Little by little the gay activists are gaining ground to try and create a privileged class status for a group of people based on sexual preference. In Gilbert, Arizona of all places, once a bastion of conservatism, the Arizona Republic reports ("Teachers Push Protection for Gays in Policy"):

The Gilbert Public Schools governing board almost approved a discrimination policy for staff Tuesday until teachers hit a political hot button by raising concerns that it would fail to protect all employees, including those who are gay, lesbian, transsexual or bisexual.

I know some of those teachers and also some of the members of the board. What a shame that they've caved into weak political thought and political pressure to go ahead and recognize LGBT as a protected class in the group's never ending quest to hijack civil rights.
Diane Drazinski, vice president of the high school arm of the district teachers' union, told the five-member board the draft proposal should specify protections for "age, color, creed, disability, marital or parental status, national origin, race, sex, sexual orientation, veteran status, religion, (and) political opinion or affiliation."...

Board member Helen Hollands asked the board to rewrite the staff proposal so that is more encompassing. The board then agreed to table it.
That's quite a list. (I wonder why the list covers "color" and "race" and "creed" and "religion"? But hey, better safe than sorry.) Even though this list exists, the school district still maintains bias in its hiring practices - not against gays, but against older people, males, and religious people.

Note, in this list, the only protected classes in the US Constitution are those based on race and religion.

So what's wrong with granting protected class status to gays? Put simply, it hijacks civil rights and all of its accomplishments gained for Blacks, other racial minorities and women.

If "gayness," defined only by unchallengeable alleged fantasy is allowed to establish itself as a protected class for civil rights purposes (a precedent not even allowed for religious profession, which must be verified for civil rights purposes by clear demonstration that religious profession is consistent with religious behavior), the privilege extended to gays will be required to apply to any group claiming benefits and status under civil rights law.

No one's claim by mere allegation will be deniable (or even investigatable) by civil rights authorities. Someone of Scandinavian descent might well secure a legal name change so as to establish a Hispanic identity, in order to gain access to minority civil rights entitlements. If gay militants have their way, the very ability of civil rights authorities to investigate the legitimacy of claims will be destroyed. Thus, the entire fabric of civil rights protections will collapse -- at untold cost to true minorities. ("Protected Class Status for Gay 'Sexual Orientations' Would Destroy the Foundation of Special Class Protections")

Instead of understanding these consequences in their push to create gays as a protected class, gay rights activists march forward, taking small gains in class definition anywhere they can, even in Gilbert, Arizona.
