Same-sex couples can start applying for marriage licenses Wednesday in Washington....Yes, it's true. The leftist ideology of "equality and fairness" has trumped the institution of marriage to establish, once again, that political expediency and feelings are more important than promoting a sound foundation for the welfare of families, children and the future generation.
Washington will be the sixth place in the nation where gay marriages can take place. Because of a mandatory waiting period, however, couples won't actually be able to marry in the District of Columbia until March 9. Connecticut, Iowa, Massachusetts, New Hampshire and Vermont currently issue licenses to same-sex couples.
Same sex marriage establishes the following by legal fiat: 1) Sexual preference and homosexual sex deserve the same protected class status as gender or race. 2) Self identification as a protected class citizen is sufficient legal proof for other legal protections and entitlements. 3) Marriage has no meaning outside of personal feelings. 4) Marriage is no longer the protected institution to regulate procreation and the protection of children. 5) Differences between the sexes are made meaningless. 6) Legal protection of marriage no longer protects raising the next generation, since redefining marriage based on sexual preference, equality, or fairness doesn't address the primary reason for a social regulation of marriage. 7) The protection of free exercise, granted to religion in the US Constitution's 1st Amendment is weakened.
Do any of these self-righteous representatives (in this case city officials) stop to consider how much damage they cause the foundational institution of marriage when their concern with political expediency trumps all rational thought?
